Dashashwamedh Ghat

The The Shiva temple of Lord Vishwanath is very close to the Ghats. The literal meaning of the Ghats is “ The river front of 10 sacrificed horses”. The Dashashwamedh Ghats are said to be about thousands of years old, where many saints have meditated.

Memories of the Dashashwamedh Ghat

Everyday, thousands of cremations take place here. This place is kept spotlessly clean by the city authorities for the people using it and for travelers, who visit this famous place.  The Famous Ganges Aarti with the lamps also takes place in the Dashashwamedh Ghats with help of many priests. Thousands of people take part in this worship with the lamps in the evening. It takes a spiritual atmosphere in the evening with people visiting the place. This worship is made to river Ganga, Lord Shiva, the sun and the fire and also the universe.

People’s attachment to Dashashwamedh Ghat

In the olden times, it is learnt that this Ghat was renovated in the year 1740 AD by Bajirao Peshva. There are many good economic hotels, dharamshalas, resorts etc, that provide accommodation at comfortable amenities to tourists. People also help the tourists to get the right information and the sources. Meditative people come here to meditate on the banks of the Ghat.
